Named a “Top 10 Great Street” by the American Planning Association (APA), West Hollywood’s Santa Monica Blvd has undergone a major facelift since its Ugly Betty days in the early ’80’s. No longer plagued by the eyesore of telephone wires and abandoned railroad tracks, this ultra chic, glammed up street is worth its $34 million dollar investment!! Described as “the
heart and soul of the community” (Councilmember Abbe Land, interviewed by Aaron Blevins, Beverly Press), the revamped road acquired part of the Historic Route 66 Highway in ’99, had approximately 1,200 trees planted, and was “‘Created by the community …for the community'”–That’s not to say that we can’t all enjoy its many splendors! Attracting upwards of 1.2 million tourists a year–most of whom are from overseas–, this hot spot has rightfully earned its prestigious designation of a “Top 10 Great Street”–its splendors are not to be beat!
